Andrew Birmingham is a 30-year veteran of the Australian media sector and the 2024 recipient of the Kester Lifetime Achievement Award. He writes about the intersection of technology, media and marketing for Mi3 Australia. Andrew built Unprompted News to test the boundaries of automated reporting, to demonstrate how far journalism can be extended with technology, and also to test the limits of audience tolerance to that technology. To that end he built a team of Reporter-GPTs - or more accurately cyborg journalists since they are part human and part machine. Andrew himself is 98% human and 2% titanium thanks to a horse riding accident when he was 23.
Real reporting, unreal reporters.
